Attraction

Plenty of sand beaches and rock cliffs line miles of virgin shoreline.

Management

Algoma Timberlakes Corporation tolerant hardwood forest dominate the area with hard maple stands occupying more than 60,000 acres (51%) while yellow birch covers almost 16,000 acres (15%), intolerant hardwoods occupy a further 15% of the property.  Softwood makes up 17% of the forested area.  The volumes presented in Table 1 are total net merchantable volumes.

The ATC Forest currently holds an estimated 2.7 million cores (6.6 million M3) of net merchantable growing stock., 68% tolerant hardwood.  Overall this forest contains 20 cords per acre (120 M3/hectare).

The harvest rotation is generally 20-25 years.  Removing 50,000 cords each and every year under a forest management plan, this property can be harvested every year in perpetuity. We own the mineral rights, surface rights, timber rights and the rights to the white pine.

Access
Located 40 miles north of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, and also from the International Bridge at Soo, Michigan.

The property is easily accessed via five (5) main roads directly off HWY 17 (Trans Canada Highway).

There are 100′s of kilometers of gravel roadways throughout the property accessing nearly 50% of all the lakes and rivers.

These roads have been created through timber management selective harvesting.  Fifty percent of the property (75,000 acres) has very limited access.  The access in this area is either by ATV or float plane.  This pristine area is carefully managed for its fish and wildlife.  Throughout this 75,000 acre block the timber is mature, up to 36” in diameter and is currently being reviewed for timber management.

CN rail runs through the property for 60 kilometers.  This property is so scenic that it has become Ontario’s #1 sightseeing rail train tour destination.  The Agawa Train Tour departs and returns to Sault Ste. Marie each day after touring the rails throughout this property. (www.agawacanyontourtrain.com)  CN also has regular passenger service to this property as well.

What is most advantageous is a freight service that runs on this rail line and ATC has three separate rail sidings for its own operations (i.e. timber harvesting) only 15 kilometers apart and each siding can hold up to 20 rail cars.
